Biography of Ellen Beatty


Ellen Beatty is Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and Treasurer of the Aerospace Corporation in Los Angeles, CA.  As the federally funded research and development center for national-security space, Aerospace provides objective technical analyses and assessments for space programs that serve the national interest. Prior to joining Aerospace, Ellen worked in various positions in the oil and energy industries, including serving as Vice President, Finance for TXU Energy Corporation in Dallas during the transition to energy deregulation in the state of Texas, and as Vice President, Finance for Quaker State Corporation prior to its merger with Pennzoil.  She spent the early part of her career in public accounting and with several firms in the upstream end of the oil and gas industry.


Ellen received a B.S. in Accountancy from the University of Illinois and an MBA from the University of Chicago, specializing in economics.  She is also a certified public accountant, receiving a Sells award for outstanding performance on the exam. Her studies at the University of Chicago with economists such as George Stigler and Sam Peltzman were influential in shaping her views on the benefits of free markets and minimal regulation.


Originally from the Chicago area, Ellen now lives with her husband and two daughters in Manhattan Beach, CA. She is a member of Financial Executives International and was selected as an American Marshall Memorial Fellow in 2001.
